The Sleep is not Dead
I slept a lot last night. This was after my third week in a row of averaging about 5 hours of sleep per night. I don't have very much homework this weekend, which is nice. I have been working on Taco HTML Edit a little, and I'm running into some issues where I might have to make a compromise. Basically the syntax checker is spending about 10% of its time actually checking syntax, and 90% of the time marking code so that it can be selected for the user to find the syntax error. This relates to inefficiencies (at least for my purposes; but remember, these things have to be robust for everyone's purposed) in the underlying APIs (to be specific, the NSTextStorage class). I could eliminate this 90% by making a copy of the text to show the errors to the user, but the user would not be able to edit this copy. I don't believe that subclassing NSTextStorage is a reasonable option. Hopefully, I can find a better solution.

It's Late
This week is turning out to be kind of busy although not as bad as the previous two weeks. I just got a new batch of Java papers to grade. I found out that the average score on the Biology test was a 65%, which is probably good because I think that I did better than that (although I don't know my score yet). I got quite a few assignments due on Friday, and I think that I am going to email a resumé to Logos even though they appear to be a Windows-only shop. By the way, after posting a comment, it will still say "comments (0)" until you refresh your browser. Also, when viewing comments, they might not always appear correctly in Internet Explorer but they will work in any other browser which I will blame on the fact that Microsoft barely develops Internet Explorer because they decided years ago that browsers should be free to drive Netscape out of business so now businesses no longer have much incentive to improve browsers and Internet Explorer still cannot block popup advertisements unlike any other browser out there. Whoa, Out of breath.

Climbing
I'm starting to have trouble keeping up with this whole posting things. Maybe, it would help if I had something to write about. Well, on Saturday, I went to the rock climbing wall with my next door neighbor. It was his first time, and he enjoyed it. At least I'm getting my money worth for the ridiculous 10 dollar belay test that I took a couple weeks ago. I guess I never talked about that test. Basically, they wanted me to pay 35 dollars to take some course and a test, and I told them I already knew how to belay, so they let me just take the test for 10 dollars. But wait, it wasn't that easy. They were upset that my technique (which is definitely safe) slightly differed from theirs, so they considered failing me (good-bye 10 dollars). They're worse than the people at RockQuest. Ah well, that's behind. This semester would be so much easier if I wasn't a fool and didn't take Biology.

Raj Gets Cultured...Sort Of
I went to Cincinnati to see the symphony yesterday with Alex. That happened after getting about 4 hours of sleep the night before because of a Biology test. The test was at 8:00 in the morning, and I studied past 3:00. Fortunately, I had time to take a nap in the afternoon. I also postponed my meeting with Dr. Uckan about my databases project until Monday in order to make things more manageable. I initially was going to cancel on Alex, but then I heard that the other person who was supposed to go also cancelled. It would not have been fun for Alex to tell his prof. that two of the donated tickets would be getting wasted.
Speaking of getting wasted, I...well...um...I guess I don't have anything to say about wasted :P. I just thought it would be a funny transition, but then I think that everyone knows that I don't, and so now I'm rambling on and on because my mom reads this.
As far as the weekend goes, I got some homework, some ownwork, and some groanwork. I'll leave it to you to figure out what that means.

Lots of Studying
I did well on my tests from last week, but now I have to study for this week's tests: Databases and Biology. Looks like another couple of busy days. Oh, and by the way, I still haven't received any reports from any of the Taco HTML Edit beta testers. It would be helpful even if you just let me know that you've been using Taco HTML Edit to do x, y, and z.

Replace Michael Eisner?
I'm not sure if anyone out there has been paying attention to this, but there has been a lot of attention being give to Disney CEO Michael Eisner's job security. A couple months ago, Eisner forced Roy Disney to leave the board of directors, and Stan Gold resigned from the board in protest. Ever since, these two guys have been trying to get Eisner fired, and it has been suggested that Steve Jobs also wants Eisner out. As a result, Jobs had very high demands when Pixar and Disney were in negotiations, so no deal was made and Jobs later threw some insults at Disney's affinity for Peter Pan remakes. It is suggested that Pixar would re-open negotiations if Eisner were gone. Now, Comcast publicly announces a Disney buyout offer and says that Eisner privately rejected the offer a week ago without even consulting anyone else at Disney. All of these things are in addition to Disney's many recent struggles including its theme parks, ABC channel, and movie animation division. It if were up to me, Eisner would be out of there.

Stressed
I had a test today, and I've got a test and a quiz tomorrow. I have to get to the library and do some research by Friday. I have two tests next week. I'm tired of all this. I guess I should go study...

Has it really been that long since I posted?
Alright, the Taco HTML Edit beta is more or less ready to go out, so I'm going to try to send it to the testers today. Of course, it is just a beta, so there are some know problems, but I guess we'll see how it goes.
This week, I've got two tests, but I don't think that they will be too hard. I need to start working on a database assignment using Microsoft Access (sigh). I also have some Biology reading to do. The good news: next weekend is a 3 day weekend because of President's Day.

Trying to Relax
I've been trying to take it easy today because I've been feeling sick for the past couple days. I decided not to go to Living Water to volunteer today. I think that I'm starting to feel better so that's good.
I am determined to get the new Taco HTML Edit beta out this weekend. I still have a few adjustments to make, and I have to test it for memory leaks and for Jaguar compatibility. That's one of the many reasons why I am going home this weekend. I need to use Jaguar, and Jaguar is on my iMac at home.
After the beta is out, I am going to start getting busier with some school work, but I want to spend most of my development time going through my new Unix networking book. It is kind of discouraging knowing that I have so much to learn before I can start working on another project, but I really want to do it. In reality, its a useful thing to learn because most applications these days involve at least a little networking. I hope that I don't have too much difficulty getting used to C programming. I know C++ and Objective C, but I've always managed to avoid that pesky language C (and all of the annoyances that go along with it).

Running on Fumes
I only got four hours of sleep last night, so I think I'm going to take a nap after posting this. My biology lab ended up taking a ton of time to finish, so a didn't go to bed until a little after 3:00. Then, I woke up to go to class at 7:15 because there is always the threat of a pop-quiz in there.
My web site host was completely unhelpful in solving the problems I've been having with this journal. I now basically have three options:
- Try to fix the problem myself.
- Find new journaling software.
- Live with the problems.

It's All Broke
I know that the comments aren't working so well right now, and I'm trying to take care of it. I contacted the people who run my server, so basically, I'm hoping that they know what's going on.Well, it's almost Super Bowl time, and I haven't started my lab report yet, so I guess I better get going on that. At least, it's not due until Tuesday. I spent much of the day yesterday with Alex and Chris; we worked on some practice problems for the ACM competition. Also, I've been working on Taco HTML Edit a lot. I'm making it so that it can execute PHP files to preview them and check their syntax.
