Not Much Up
There's not much going on these days. I spent quite a bit of time this weekend writing code to handle the file formats for the network filtering application. The Taco Software site experienced some down time today due to issues with the web site host. I guess I don't have to worry too much about monitoring it myself because my mom was quick to notify me ;) . I've got a lot of stuff going on in my Machine Learning class. Last week, we had a test and the first programming assignment due. This week, I am going to be working on the second programming assignment and the final project with my group.

Three Day Weekend
The nice thing about this weekend is that it lasts one day longer than normal. This evening, I've been working on some programming stuff, and I played some Madden. I'm now playing on the hardest difficulty without much luck so far. I'm pretty certain that I'm going to stay in Oxford this summer and just take some classes and work on a thesis. I'm beginning to wonder whether or not I'll ever enter the real world. Last week, my software engineering group presented our results to a panel of "experts", although probably only half of them deserve that title. One of the "experts" didn't know what PHP was, so she asked me, "What does PHP stand for?" This seems like an unusual question to learn what a product does because normally the name of the product is not too descriptive. But, I answered her question, saying, "PHP stands for PHP Hypertext Preprocessor." I doubt that she understood the whole recursive acronym thing, but the deserving-of-the-title experts seemed impressed that I knew this bit of trivia. Anyway, I guess that they liked our proposal because our team was deemed the winner.
Its turning out that I'm having a few technical difficulties with this journal again (what's new, maybe Movable Type is not so good). I'm not getting email notifications when comments are posted, so it might take me awhile to approve a comment if you post one. I have to approve comments manually because spammers will flood the comments otherwise.
Next week, I'm going to try to talk to one of my professors to try to come up with a thesis topic/advisor. I have a Machine Learning test, and a 5k1llz test in ice skating. This weekend, I need to do some grocery shopping and some laundry.

Group Projects
I've been fairly busy for the past week due to group projects. I've had to meet with my Software Engineering group quite a bit, and I've had a couple groups in my Honors waste-of-time-but-i-want-free-summer-tuition Seminar. I've been meeting for a few hours most days with my group for a Machine Learning assignment (a graduate-only course). The assignment requires knowledge of the C++ programming language, but most of the students only know Java, so I've been doing a lot of explaining on how C++ pointers work.

Taking It Easy
My semester has been going pretty well so far. My courses aren't too difficult, as I had anticipated. This means that I have some time to work on my Taco Software projects (yes, that's plural). I have also been playing quite a bit of Madden 2005, pitting the Eagles and Patriots against each other in preparation for the Super Bowl. I've been staying logged on to AOL Instant Messenger more often than usual because it is theoretically part of the Taco Software support line. No one has actually used it for that purpose yet; I guess email is easier. Anyway, my screen name is simply Taco Software. I've talked to Josh K. (new domain pending) quite a bit lately; he took the plunge and bought a PowerBook. In the mean time, I'm beginning to think that I should get a used Windows computer. What's the world coming to?
